Start with a specific moment
Instead of describing yourself as someone who always does something, choose one recent example. Where were you? What was happening? What did you notice just before the behaviour? These questions help make a broad concern easier to discuss.
Ask what you needed at the time
A familiar behaviour may be connected with wanting a break, comfort or a change of pace. Treat that as something to explore, rather than an explanation you must accept. Two people with the same outward habit may have quite different experiences behind it.
Choose a manageable alternative
In sessions, Barry can help you explore a response you would prefer and mentally rehearse it. The alternative should fit your actual life. Between appointments, noticing what happened when you tried it gives you something useful to review together.
Make room for the right support
Changing a pattern is not always straightforward and results vary. Concerns involving dependence, eating disorders or other health conditions may need specialist care. A clarity call can help you discuss the boundaries of hypnotherapy and whether it is an appropriate starting point.
These guides describe Barry’s approach and are general information, not individual medical advice. For health concerns, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
